First Amendment and Voting Rights

We fight to protect freedom of speech and the right to vote.

The rights protected by the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution are foundational to our system of government. KLLF lawyers have broad experience standing up for free speech and voting rights in a wide range of cases. In the months before the 2020 election, KLLF helped establish a notice and cure process for mail-in and provisional ballots in New Jersey. Other work by KLLF attorneys in voting rights and First Amendment matters at our prior firm includes:

  • Helping lead a multi-state recount effort after the 2016 election that ultimately resulted in a landmark settlement in which Pennsylvania agreed to implement voter-verified paper ballots in every election.

  • Challenging the “LLC Loophole” in New York’s campaign finance laws to protect elections from undue corporate influence.

  • Successfully forcing the unsealing of court records relating to sexual abuse allegations against Jeffrey Epstein that had been improperly hidden from public view.

  • Quashing an overbroad subpoena brought by agribusiness giant Monsanto against a global civic organization.

  • Representing clients who were targeted for voter intimidation and harassment in a suit under the Voting Rights Act and the Ku Klux Klan Act.
